Cody & Trevor

A winter wedding in Costa Rica.

About the Wedding

Please, share your engagement story!
Trevor planned to propose at the beach while on vacation in Cancun. About an hour before the proposal, he received a message from the our resort saying telling him to please come to the front desk as soon as possible. When Trevor came back, he told Cody our dinner reservation (which Trevor had said was scheduled at one of the outdoor restaurants) was on hold for the time being, since it was POURING down rain. Trevor had to go back to the desk in 30 minutes to check on our reservation, because they told him they might have to reschedule the dinner. When Trevor returned, he told Cody we were all set for our reservation: the rain had stopped. Mind you, at this point it was 9:15 pm, and we were hungry. So we both went up to the front desk, were handed champagne flutes, and were then escorted through the grounds of the resort. We were led in the opposite direction of the restaurant, but we both just looked at each other and just kept walking. Then we saw this gazebo set up with linens and lights. As we were walking, the resort photographer stopped us for an impromptu photo shoot. While we were taking pictures, Trevor grabbed Cody's hand and then got down onto one knee. Trevor started to talk, and Cody immediately began to cry. Cody said "nope!" turned around, wipes his eyes, and then said "okay, I am ready now." Right after, without any hesitation, he said YES!!

Tell us about your experience working with SuitShop.

The experience we had was amazing with SuitShop, I have nothing bad to say about anything. We did have a little mix up with the shoes for all of us guys. We tried on a specific pair in the Chicago showroom, and then received a completely different color but the same shoe style. Turns out the color lot had been updated from what was stocked in the showroom. Matthew was so responsive on getting this all figured out for us.

How did you choose your other vendors?

Florals: We used a local Costarican Florist based off of their Instagram handle @ideasproducciones_ and how responsive they were. We didn't get to meet them prior to our wedding day since they were in Costa Rica and we were in Illinois. On our wedding day we met with them for a brief period of time to confirm we liked what the floral arrangements looked like and they surpassed our expectations!

Venue/Food: We chose Dreams Las Mareas based on just the sheer beauty in all of the photos (of the resort in general and of weddings there specifically) they showcase on their website. Our theme was Destination.

Photographer/Videographer: Melissa was our photographer, and Stephanie was our videographer. Their ENGERY is everything you need. Their sister duo is an absolute godsend!

Do you have any advice for marriers-to-be?

We had been together for about 7 years prior to us getting married. We both always say communication is key.
