Joe & Meg
A winter wedding in Ellicott City, MD.
About the Wedding
How did you choose your wedding location?
We were both born and raised in Maryland, so we wanted to stay somewhat close to the city! We fell in love with Main Street Ballroom in Ellicott City, MD because of its industrial feel and history! It was a stone mill warehouse in the 1920s that was recently converted to a wedding venue. The venue complemented our theme perfectly, with the café lights and intimate feel! It also helped that it was 100% dog friendly, so our golden retriever, Benny, could run down the aisle.
How did you choose your wedding color palette?
Meg took the lead on choosing colors. We wanted to stick to black and white for signage, with pops of neutral earth tones to really create a timeless look. The dark sea-glass dresses and grey suits fit the mold for our theme perfectly!
We'd love to know more about your experience in working with SuitShop.
It was great! Joe has worn suits in several weddings from SuitShop before and loves the quality. SuitShop offered a wide variety of suits in different styles, and the customer service process made it seamless for groomsmen who tend to be forgetful. We loved the feature of being able to see who ordered their suits and who still needed to get it done.
From heart-shaped sunglasses and blow up instruments to flip cup and limbo during the reception, your wedding seemed to be a true representation of the two of you. How did you decide what elements were important for you to personalize?
We knew from the beginning that we wanted our reception to encompass one of our favorite non-traditional holidays of the year: Friendsgiving. Every year, we get together with core groups of friends to eat, drink, and celebrate how thankful we are for each other, and with our wedding being a week before Thanksgiving, this was a no-brainer for us to implement into our day. Having all of our favorite people in the same room is truly a once in a lifetime event, and we wanted to showcase that we love having fun and never take life too seriously!
What would be your one-sentence advice for marriers-to-be?
Joe: “She’s always right.” (LOL) but seriously - the planning process and day-of goes by more quickly than you think, so make sure you help your fiancée when she asks for any input!
Meg: Wedding planning can be incredibly stressful, but the day-of, no matter what hiccups may arise, is truly going to be the best and most perfect day of your life!
