Nate & Trevor

A fall wedding in Allamuchy, New Jersey.

About the Wedding

The Proposal

Nate proposed to Trevor at Juniper Pass in April 2022, overlooking the beautiful mountainscape in Idaho Springs, Colorado. Nate spent months working with a professional photographer to plan Trevor a surprise birthday trip to a mountain town cabin that was secretly an engagement photoshoot. At nearly 12,000 feet of elevation, the two enjoyed incredible views and some unpredictable weather from a cabin atop St. Mary’s Glacier. When the time came to drive to the proposal location, it took a bit of convincing to get Trevor to swap out his snow boots for dress shoes for what he thought was a quick stop to watch the sunset before dinner reservations in downtown Idaho Springs.

Reluctant to go towards the edge of a cliff at Juniper Pass, Trevor quickly realized this was not just a birthday trip when Nate got down on one knee and popped the question. In true Trevor fashion, he immediately followed up his “yes” by asking if he and Nate would still be getting food as planned. Don’t worry, after their snowy engagement shoot, they did. Colorado’s serious altitude meant the temperature dropped by 30 degrees from the top of the mountain down to the proposal spot, so any pictures not showing Nate or Trevor’s hands are hiding much-appreciated hand warmers.

The Wedding

Nate and Trevor unknowingly grew up less than a mile from each other in New Jersey, so it only made sense that they had their wedding back on the East Coast after the two spent a few years living in Boulder, Colorado. They technically eloped in the same spot where they got engaged, then held a faux ceremony and a unique Friday the 13th reception in Allamuchy, New Jersey. The wedding took place in an early 1900s Tudor-style mansion on October 13, 2023, surrounded by friends and family. Obsessed with the venue’s ceiling detail, antique art and furniture, outdoor spaces, and marble fireplaces, Rutherfurd Hall perfectly added to the picturesque aesthetic of the day.

As with any nontraditional wedding, the couple focused on making sure the wedding was authentically “Nate and Trevor.” Their day featured pet-inspired mocktails, an unplanned wasp sting (and confirmation that Trevor is not allergic!), and an ice cream cart instead of cake. These personal touches, with the help of their wedding planner, made their day even more special.

The Suits
Leaning into the subtle spooky vibe of the 20th-century venue, their wedding theme colors included a deep forest green, pale sage green, and a striking burnt orange. Nate and Trevor each wore a tan suit, a decision made when the newlyweds visited SuitShop’s showroom in Denver.

Originally not set on matching, the couple loved the way the tan suits looked together with their accessories. The grooms paired the tan suits with white dress shirts, men’s brown tweed vests, orange ties, and light brown shoes, which all complemented the wedding color palette.

Nate and Trevor suited their “Grooms’ Gang” in light gray suits, a neutral style to balance the tan and brown tweed suit look, opting to provide their wedding party with quality suits to wear again for future occasions.

The grooms’ green and orange boutonnieres tied the look together and helped match the rest of the group’s pops of color.

Both Nate and Trevor’s favorite pieces of the outfit were the tweed suit vests, which harmonized with the gorgeous wooden walls of the mansion without blending in. The showroom fittings helped the couple envision how each item of their ensemble would work together with other design elements of their wedding. The suits and tweed vests were comfortable through lots of dancing, made both grooms feel confident in photos, and even cleaned up easily when Nate accidentally covered the back of his legs in mud taking lakeside pictures before the ceremony!

The Wedding Advice

The biggest takeaway Nate and Trevor shared from their wedding and marriage so far was to not take anything too seriously. Planning a wedding, trying on groom styles, and handling last-minute chaos are all supposed to be a little stressful mixed with a lot of fun, and they now often laugh about the unpredictability of it all.

The showroom fittings helped us envision how each piece of our ensembles would work together with all our other wedding design elements.
