Different Look for the Groom?

Groom in bold color

Question:
Hi Suited for Style! I know that traditionally the groom and groomsmen will wear the same or similar looks for the wedding day, but I really want to step out of the box and do something different for my look.  The groomsmen will be wearing SuitShop's Black Suit because that color works the best to complement the bridesmaids dresses.  I always envisioned that I would wear a bright or bold color on my wedding day because I like to have fun with my style.  Any suggestions? Is this acceptable?

Answer:
Thanks for the question. We love to hear from style guys! Remember, your wedding your way! There are no real rules to this thing (other than suiting etiquette) so have fun with your selections.  As long as your fiancee is in agreement and any family members that you may have to consult, go for it! When the groom is wearing a different look than the groomsmen, I do like to suggest that there is some common element between you and your attendants whether that be the same tie or even the same pant and shoe color.  It's OK for you to look different but you all should at least look like you are going to the same party!  If your groomsmen will be wearing SuitShop's Black Suit, consider wearing black pants as well. Instead of a black suit jacket, pair the black pants with a feature blazer in a bold color.  Whatever color you choose, make sure that it also complements the bridesmaid gowns.  Keep the wedding party photos in mind.  When everyone in your wedding party is in a photo together all looks should tie-in and the most attention should be on you and your fiancee.

Best of luck! Wishing you a lifetime of love and happiness!
